CULTURE WAR LANGUAGE AND THE MISSION OF THE CHURCH<\/strong><br>Today, the metaphor to rule them all is that of war. We read about \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commonwealmagazine.org\/liturgy-wars\">liturgy wars<\/a>\u201d in the church and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.paulistpress.com\/Products\/4750-2\/vatican-ii.aspx\">battles<\/a>\u201d over the interpretation of the Second Vatican Council, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/if-democrats-fought-an-all-out-culture-war-against-republicans-theyd-win\">as well as political<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/07\/14\/opinion\/culture-war-democrats-republicans.html\">cultural<\/a> wars and the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/press.uchicago.edu\/ucp\/books\/book\/chicago\/W\/bo37161499.html\">War for the Soul of America<\/a>,\u201d as one book title put it. With the ubiquity of this metaphor, Christians might ask why it is so enticing. Why does it dominate our social imagination? In this session, Fr. Aaron Wessman, author of the new Magenta book <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newcitypress.com\/the-church-s-mission-in-a-polarized-world.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Church&rsquo;s Mission in a Polarized World<\/a><\/em>, will give the keynote address following an introduction by Charles Camosy, editor of the Magenta Series.
