The first pioneers tell the story!
September 14th, 1961 - By Sharry Silvi An old house, a narrow door, strange iron staircases hanging outside the windows. "What are they?" I asked. "A fire escape" they answered. One of Frank's children had come to meet us at the door. "If the policemen see you going up and down those stairs, they shoot at you," the little boy told me. The entrance was narrow and dark. One flight of stairs, two, three... there was our apartment."It's a railroad apartment," Frank explained and I thought of a train. It was true that house reminded you of a train because the rooms were connected one right after the other. There was something different about it: it was nice and orderly and clean but due to old age everything was slightly crooked. The floor, the walls, the ceiling. It would make you seasick, until you could get used to it. To be continued...
