Experiences of Life

The Word of Life Project is an initiative for 2012 to not only read the word of life and put it into practice,
but to share the real-life results of doing so. This collection of testimonials is meant to encourage all of
us to pick up the word of life, read it, live it and share it. Stay tuned for an experience submission form!

There are no translations available. On the way to work each morning I pass a few homeless men. Remembering that each of us is created in the image and likeness of God, I say good morning to them. Over the years I've gotten to know some of their names, Ronnie, Reggie, BJ. Twice a month I ride with someone to pick up donated bread from a local bakery then I get dropped off close to work. I usually take two sweet rolls with me to share with the "friends" I meet along the way. The other morning as I was walking, I realized Reggie was on the other side of the street. The week before he had given me a hard time because I never give any of them money. That morning I kept waking, not wanting to go out of my way. But that little voice kept telling me: "Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths" (Lk. 3:4) ...and the choice between my will and his. I tried to ignore it thinking how silly it would look to turn around and go back. Then it hit me, looking silly is my ego, if I want to prepare the way I have to set aside my ego. So I turned around, crossed the street and offered him the sweet roll if he wanted it. He smiled and accepted it. As I crossed the street again on my way to work, I was so happy, I felt I had a little more space in my heart for God! B.D., Midwest region
