The first pioneers tell the story!

September 14th, 1961 - By Sharry Silvi

(…) So many people on the subway, so different from one another, so many colors I’d never seen before. Giovanna went with me when I was looking for a job and we found it in 2 days. I was going to work in the UN (United Nations). A big building, a lot of lights, many people, strange hours and work, a lot of work. In the cafeteria in the morning I got used to English muffins and American coffee. It was like being on an island. People were coming and going, busy, always in a hurry. We waited for the elevator. I said “good morning” to people but nobody answered…

There was a great turmoil in the UN because it was fall, the busy time. They told me I was supposed to be at the switchboard, but I’d never seen a switchboard before in my life. It was scary! All those lights flickering, all those cords hanging, and yet it was Jesus calling…

One day there was a lady sitting near me on the subway. At first I thought she was talking to me and I turned toward her but she didn’t pay any attention. I realized she was talking to herself or better to an imaginary man. She was shouting aloud to everybody. I looked around. Everybody was reading the newspaper. The lady, the passengers, the children: it was Jesus.
