EdU - Education for Unity

"Education and Unity” (EdU) is the outreach of those who, through a lived spirituality of communion, seek to create a new culture in the field of education.  While it is evident that many countries around the world are striving to combat illiteracy, societies in developed nations such as ours risk a new kind of illiteracy—an illiteracy of the conscience.  This is the inspiration behind the efforts of EdU to create this new culture. 

EdU groups throughout the United States and Canada include students, parents, and professionals representing all strata of education who work together with the International Commission on Education of the Focolare Movement in Rome.  They study foundational documents and work to develop a doctrine of education that emerges from the Focolare’s spirituality of unity.  They facilitate projects in specific school settings through which students, parents, staff and educational professionals are building an education of communion.  They also organize local and regional seminars at which all the stakeholders in education consider together the implications of the spirituality of communion and plan specific projects that can serve students, staff, teachers, administrators, and parents in their particular contexts.
