Experiences of Life

The Word of Life Project is an initiative for 2012 to not only read the word of life and put it into practice,
but to share the real-life results of doing so. This collection of testimonials is meant to encourage all of
us to pick up the word of life, read it, live it and share it. Stay tuned for an experience submission form!

There are no translations available. Due to changes in the medical billing system at work and the fact that I had been on vacation for one week, I found myself on a Monday morning with four times the regular workload on my desk. For over a week, I went into work an hour early and worked through lunch in order to get caught up. When I was not making enough headway, I began going to the office two hours early: stress was overcoming my life. One day I told my husband he should probably check the internet for symptoms of heart attacks in women as I had never felt so much stress. That night when I went to bed I said: “Lord I can’t do this!” And that small, loving voice spoke, though inaudibly, “Not under your own strength you can’t.” I was struck with the realization I was not seeking God in this. I remembered the Word of Life for the month: “Repent, and believe in the Gospel.” (Mt 1:15) Two Scriptures came to mind: “Come to me all you that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.” (Mt. 11:28) I certainly sought “rest” after trying to get this accomplished on my own strength. And the other Scripture sentence: “…if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move.” (Mt. 17:20) That is exactly what I had on my desk: a mountain of work that brought me to my knees. Now, having my eyes opened by the Master, I was full of faith and hope and felt cared for and very loved. The next morning I went to work at my regular time with a new mentality. As that month’s Word of Life said, “...living just one word of the Gospel is enough to experience unexpected help, unique strength, a light for our path. Precisely because each word of the Gospel is a presence of God, connecting with it makes people free, purifies, converts, brings comfort and joy, and gives wisdom.” That is exactly why I felt so empowered that next morning. I had the WORD in me as I tackled the ‘mountain’ of work yet to be done. I called the first company that had pages of outstanding claims. Normally when we call these companies, they help us with about five claims before putting us back in the queue to move to their next caller. This morning I got a representative who began to help me with my claims. Three hours later, he ask me how many more claims I had to check. I said, “Gene, it has been wonderful spending the morning with you and this is my last claim.” He responded, “That’s good because I was going to tell you I could do one more claim and then I would have to put you back in the queue as I am an hour past my break time.” The other people in the office could not believe it when I told them a rep had worked with me for three hours without putting me back in the queue as this is unheard of in our field. I knew exactly why this had happened. It was Jesus letting me know that he was true to His word and my small little faith was allowing Him to help me move mountains. This all happened at the beginning of my work week and by Friday when I left the office I was nearly caught up with the backlog of work and my list for that week completed. Now when I go to work each day, I go with joy and anticipation of how the Lord will work with me. As that same Word of Life said, “A small quick change of course would be enough to emerge from the limits of our ego and open ourselves up to God and experience another life, the true one.” C.C., College Station, Tex.
